What are the new features and improvements in Season 2.9?

Mortal Kombat Project 4.1: Season 2.9 is perhaps the most complete and polished version of Mortal Kombat Project to date. It has a lot of new features and improvements that make it stand out from other free MK games.

Characters

Season 2.9 has a total of 54 playable characters, including some new additions to the roster. The new characters are:

  • Quan Chi: A sorcerer and necromancer who serves Shinnok and has a rivalry with Scorpion. He has a unique moveset that includes teleportation, skull projectiles, and leg-ripping fatalities.

  • Reiko: A former general of Shao Kahn's army who seeks to claim his throne. He has a similar fighting style to Kahn, but also uses shurikens, bombs, and a spiked club as weapons.

  • Tanya: A traitorous Edenian who allies herself with various evil forces. She has a flexible and acrobatic moveset that involves fireballs, splits, and neck snaps.

  • Meat: A bloody and skinless experiment who escaped from Shang Tsung's flesh pits. He has no original moves of his own, but can mimic the moves of other characters.

In addition to the new characters, Season 2.9 also updates some of the existing characters with new sprites, animations, sounds, and moves. For example, Scorpion has a new fire breath fatality, Sub-Zero has a new ice clone move, and Raiden has a new lightning storm move.

Stages

Season 2.9 has a total of 32 stages, including some new additions to the game. The new stages are:

  • The Pit III: A classic stage from Mortal Kombat 3 that features a bridge over a pit of spikes. You can knock your opponent off the bridge for a stage fatality.

  • The Subway: Another classic stage from Mortal Kombat 3 that features a subway station with trains passing by. You can throw your opponent onto the tracks for a stage fatality.

  • The Soul Chamber: A new stage that features a dark and eerie chamber with souls floating around. You can use the souls as projectiles or as platforms to jump on.

  • The Netherrealm: A new stage that features a fiery and hellish realm with lava pools and demons. You can use the lava pools as traps or as weapons to burn your opponent.

In addition to the new stages, Season 2.9 also updates some of the existing stages with new graphics, music, and effects. For example, The Temple has a new night-time setting, The Courtyard has a new rain effect, and The Living Forest has a new fog effect.

Combat systems

Season 2.9 introduces some new combat systems that add more depth and variety to the gameplay. These include:

  • Combat codes: A system that allows you to customize the rules of each match by entering a code before the fight. You can change various aspects of the game, such as the timer, the damage, the health bars, the rounds, the difficulty, and even the gravity.

  • Aggressor meter: A system that rewards you for being aggressive in combat by filling up a meter below your health bar. When the meter is full, you can activate Aggressor mode, which gives you increased speed, damage, and invincibility for a short time.

  • Braker mechanism: A system that allows you to interrupt your opponent's combo by using one bar of your super meter. When you perform a Braker, you will break free from your opponent's attack and stun them for a brief moment.

  • Floor transitions: A system that allows you to change the stage during the fight by performing certain moves near the edges of the screen. When you perform a floor transition, you will knock your opponent to another level of the stage, dealing extra damage and changing the scenery.

Finishing moves

Season 2.9 enhances and alters some of the finishing moves that are available in the game. These include:

  • Fatalities: The signature moves of Mortal Kombat that allow you to kill your opponent in a brutal and gruesome way. Season 2.9 adds some new fatalities for some characters, such as Quan Chi's leg rip or Reiko's head smash. It also modifies some of the existing fatalities, such as Liu Kang's dragon bite or Shang Tsung's soul steal.

  • Friendships: The humorous moves that allow you to spare your opponent in a friendly and funny way. Season 2.9 adds some new friendships for some characters, such as Quan Chi's balloon animal or Tanya's dance party. It also modifies some of the existing friendships, such as Scorpion's teddy bear or Sub-Zero's snowman.

  • Babalities: The cute moves that allow you to turn your opponent into a baby version of themselves. Season 2.9 adds some new babalities for some characters, such as Quan Chi's skull pacifier or Reiko's helmet r attle. It also modifies some of the existing babalities, such as Liu Kang's fireball or Raiden's lightning.

  • Hara-kiris: The self-destructive moves that allow you to kill yourself before your opponent can finish you. Season 2.9 adds some new hara-kiris for some characters, such as Quan Chi's skull crush or Tanya's spine twist. It also modifies some of the existing hara-kiris, such as Scorpion's spear impale or Sub-Zero's ice shatter.

  • Animalities: The mystical moves that allow you to transform into an animal and attack your opponent. Season 2.9 adds some new animalities for some characters, such as Quan Chi's bat or Reiko's rhino. It also modifies some of the existing animalities, such as Liu Kang's dragon or Shang Tsung's cobra.

Stage fatalities: The environmental moves that allow you to use the stage elements to kill your opponent. Season 2.9 adds some new stage fatalities for some stages, such as The Pit III's spike impale or The Subway's train smash. It also modifies some of the existing stage fatalities, such as The Temp
